Still Searching for the Body of Drowned Youth

DRESDEN, O., June 4 – The body of Raymond Litzenberger, 17, of Columbus, who was drowned in the Muskingum river Sunday has not yet been recovered. Marshall Richcreek has requested more help from the surrounding cities. Relatives and friends of the victim are assisting in the search to recover the body.

Albert Parson and wife, of Gilbert, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Henery, of Old Town.

Mrs. Sadie Cole and daughter, Ialien will spent Saturday in New Comerstown.

Picnic Enjoyed

The Jefferson CCL held a picnic for members and their families on the American legion grounds Tuesday. Games and swimming were enjoyed. Those present with their children were Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Cox, Mr.and Mrs. Wayne Cox, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wilcox, Mr. and Mrs. Don Bonifield, Mrs. Don Shrover, Mrs. Russell Stoops, Mr. and Mrs. Robert McBride and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mitchell.

Library Drive

The annual fund drive of the Dresden branch library will be held the week of Aug 24. Mrs. Clarence Fortune, chairman for the drive announced the following solicitors- Mary Mount, Barbara Seenes, Ellen Dobson, Martha Beal, Hannah and Helen Helbling, Mina Bonifield, Yvonne Wolfe, Laura Kain, Patty Prince, Hazel Zay, Melba Stratman, Betty Slate, Wally Parks, Trinway, Mrs. Fortune and Doris Harper, co-chairmen.

Bicycle Club Officers

Don Guilliams, chairwan of the recently organized Bicycle club, announces the following officers: Suzanne Garrett, president; Becky Starner, vice-president; Debbie Kain, secretary; Safety committee, Denny Wilcox, Dee Mays and Donald Mount.

Licenses will be sold Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the mayor's office.

Registration must show the make, color and serial number of bicycle. A fee of 25 cents is charged for the license.

All bicycle owners residing in the village of Dresden must have a license on or before Oct 1, 1964.

The first official meeting of the club will be Sept. 19.

Personals

Rev. and Mrs. Kelly Oswald and son, Lonnie, left Tuesday morning on a two week camping trip in Michigan and Canada. The pulpit of the First Baptist church will be filled during Rev. Oswald's absence by Alivn Green, Lewis Center, Ohio, on Aug. 23, and by John Barnes of Cambridge on Aug 30, for both morning and evening services.

Pam and Greg Rodgers, children of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Rodgers, returned home Sunday by TWA jet plane from Phoenix, Ariz., after spending the summer with Mr. and Mrs. James Norris and family. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Meyer Schwartz and family and spent a weekend at the Grand Canyon. They were accompanied home by Mrs. Dale Cullins of Mesa, Ariz., who is spending a week with her parents in Philo.

Mrs. Doris Harper spent the weekend as a guest of Rev. and Mrs. Russell Harper and family of Barlow. She also visited with an aunt, Mrs. A.L. Harper, Waverly, W. Va.

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Schumacher and family of Tennessee, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Carmichael of Columbus were Tuesday guests of Mrs. Ralph Schumacher.

Employed in Alabama

Gerald K. Matthews, formerly of Dresden, has gone to Huntsville, Ala., where he has accepted a position as senior aerospace engineer, assigned to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's rocket propulsion labratory.

Dr. Werhner Von Braun is technical director.

Mr. Matthews will be engaged in rocket engine research on the Saturn "Moon" rocket. He was formerly employed for three and a half years by RCA in Cambridge, as a project chief electronics engineer in the test design section.

The son of Dr. and Mrs. D.K. Matthews, Dresden, he is a graduate of the Jefferson high school and Ohio State university. He and his wife, Sonja, will establish their new home in Huntsville.

Hosptial Note

Tim Norris of Phoenix, Ariz., is improving at his home after undergoing surgery last week.

Dresden, O., Nov. 21- James G. May was arrested by Marshall George Richcreek Tuesday on a charge of intoxication and operating an automobile while under the influence of liquor. He was ordered to appear before Squire Davis. Attorney Graham, who represents May, asked for a few days continuance.

The Women's Bible class of the Baptist church will have an all-day sewing Thursday at the home of Mrs. Howard Little.

Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Gilmore of Columbus are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Levi Butler. Mrs. Gilmore is taking Abram treatments at Coshocton.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Casner and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fortune and son Donald motored to Zanesville Saturday.

Mrs. Inez Escover and two children of Zanesville are visiting Mr. and Mrs. John Fitch.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lutz and children spent Sunday the guests of Mr. and Mrs. George Lutz of Is---a.

The Baptist Sewing Circle will be entertained at the home of Mrs. Al Porter on Main street Friday evening. All ladies of the church are invited. Come and bring your friends.

Mr. & Mrs. Sam'l Cox Married 65 Years Ago

Dec. 2 - Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Cox celebrated their 65th anniversary Thanksgiving day. Mr. and Mrs. Cox have enjoyed good health and happiness all these years. Their children went home with well filled baskets feeling very thankful that their father and mother had been spared to live together these many years. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Cox, near Adams Mills, Mr. and Mrs. Manuel Cox of Coshocton, Mr. and Mrs. O.G. McCoy, near Roscoe, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Cox and son, Eugene, of Dresden, Mr. and Mrs. Ed McFarland and children of Dresden and Mr. Melvin Cox of the home.

Mrs. Edward West obituary

Mrs. Edward West of Dresden Dies At Bethesda Hospital

Nov. 23- Mrs. Edward West, aged 59, died at Bethesda Hospital Friday morning about 3 o'clock. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Floyd Clark and Mrs. Clarence Snyder, three step sons, Ira West, Homer West and Roy West, one granddaughter, Noradale Stargel, of the home; one sister, Mrs. Ohio Williams and two brothers, Sanford King and William King. The funeral will be held from the Prospect church Sunday morning at 10 o'clock. Burial in the Prospect cemetery.

Samuel Squire

Samuel Squire, who died at Dresden, aged 67, was born and reared in Jackson township. He moved to Dresden fifteen years ago. He served in the 122nd regiment during the Civil war. J.S. Squire of Coshocton is a brother.

Two Homes At Dresden Burned Down Thursday

Dresden, O., Jan. 11 - The homes of Wm. Lacy and Howard Lacy were completely destroyed by fire on Thursday morning about 4 o'clock when the home of the latter caught fire from an over-heated stove. Neither house was insured and the loan is estimated at from $3,000 to $4,000.

At Akeroyd Home

Mrs. Clara Akeroyd entertained the members of the Episcopal Guild society at her home on Main street, Wednesday. A potluck dinner was served at the noon hour and officers for the coming year were elected. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Fred Breighthaupt.

At Lacy Home

Harold Lacy entertained a few of his friends with a party honoring his 18th birthday Thursday evening. Games and music were the main features of the evening and delicious refreshments were served. Those present were Misses Alice and Louise Downs, Virginia Goff, Jeanette Ross, Elizabeth Vandenbark, Messrs. Harold Keyes, Louis Downs, Robert Cox and the host, Harold Lacy.

Call-Cassday

Miss Lorna Cassady, formerly of this place was married to Martin Call of Coshocton on Sunday. The many friends extend their congratulations.

Mr. G.w. Richcreek, who had been ill from hemorrhage of the nose, is some improved.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hindell are the parents of a baby girl, called Betty Jean on Dec. 29th.

Bert Helpingstine, who has been visiting at the Howard Snack home for the past three months, returned to his home in Illinois on Sunday.

Miss Bertha Kinsey, principal of the high school at Corning, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Shaver.

Miss Elizabeth Evans, Miss Helen Reuter and Miss Marion Griffith of Columbus and Miss Norma Vernon of Athens have returned here after a two-weeks' visit at their home.

Bell Palmer left Thursday for Columbus where she will visit for a few days.

Mrs. T.G. Robertson obituary - 1903

Died Mrs. Robertson -- Doubly Afflicted Household Suffers Great Loss

Mrs. T.G. Robertson, aged 49 years, died at the family residence in Dresden at 12:25 o'clock Saturday afternoon, after about two years sickness from organic heart trouble.

The Robinson family has been doubly afflicted during the past few weeks, there being three cases of diptheria in the family, besides the suffering wife and mother. The latter are now getting about and will be entirely well should no backset occur, the residence having been thoroughly fumigated Saturday evening.

The remains of Mrs. Robinson will be taken to her former home, Washington, D.C., for interment, arriving at that point Tuesday noon.

Mr. Robinson is the overseer of the finishing department of the Dresden Woolen mills, and has the sympathy of the entire community in his bereavement.

Lightning Strikes Straw Ricks Dresden Paper Mill - 1923

Spectacular Blaze Threatens Large Section of City - Aid sent From Here

Dresden, O., June 6 - Fire which threatened to entirely destroy the Dresden paper mill on South Main Street, broke out about 9:30 o'clock Wednesday night when lightning struck the straw ricks near the main building of the plant during a severe electrical storm.

The straw, being very inflamable, was quickly a mass of fire. The flames spread rapidly and for a time it was feared the entire paper mill as well as several residences across the street might be destroyed. Two hose carts of the Dresden fire department were called into service and about half the residents of the city turned out to fight the flames.

An emergency call was sent to Zanesville for aid. the Abington avenue truck and crew together with Fire Chief Hal Tanner left this city about 10:30 for Dresden to aid in the efforts to extinguish the fire. Information at a late hour was to the effect that the flames were fairly well under control.

It was estimated that the damage would amount to several thousand dollars as many tons of straw were consumed by the fire. It is understood that loss is partly covered by insurance.

The residence of Thomas Stanley, near the paper mill, was also struck by lightning during the storm. It was ignited but the flames were extinguished without much damage after a part of the floor had been torn up. So far as could be learned, no other buildings had been struck by lightning, although the storm damage will amout to considerable.

Abe Moyer, aged 74, of Miamisburg, formerly of Dresden, died at his home there Wednesday, Dec. 19, of apoplexy.

The members of the Shakespeare club were entertained at the home of Mrs. Martha Pfouts on Monday evening. The program was as follows: Responses, Christmas; Original story by Mrs. Kate Shore; Reading, "The Nativity", Christmas carols by the club. Refreshments were served in accordance with the Christmas season.

Miss Rose Shutts and Harry Shutts shopped in Zanesville Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Mayer and children were called to Miamisburg because of the death of the former's father, Abe Moyer.

The Baptist Sunday school will hold their Christmas entertainment in the church Sunday evening, Dec. 23, beginning at 7 o'clock. Everybody welcome.

The Presbyterian Sunday school will hold their Christmas exercises in the church Monday evening, Dec. 24.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Keyes will spend Christmas week in Newark.

Joseph Blott, who is attending O.S.U. at Columbus is visiting his home here.

Mrs. Bert Wright of Chaffin, O., spend the weekend with her aunt, Mrs. Lou Miller.

Mrs. Barbara Copland spent Wednesday with her daughters, Mrs. J.P. Arnold and Mrs. Harry Barron of Zanesville.

Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Brockelbank will leave Sunday for Pittsburgh where they will spend the Christmas holidays.

A.E. Griffin

An illness from a complication of diseases resulted in the death of Addison E. Griffin, aged 28, a well known resident of Dresden, at his home there at 1:45 o'clock Saturday morning. He had been in failing health for several weeks. The funeral will be conducted at the home of his sister, Mrs. Sherman Wright in Dresden, at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon and internment will be made in the Dresden cemetery.

Mr. Griffin is survived by one daughter, Miss Edna Griffin of Coshocton; his father, Milton Griffin and by one sister and two brothers: Mrs. Sherman Wright and Herbert Griffin, both of Dresden, and Jay Griffin of this city.

Dresden, O., Jan. 1 - A few relatives of Mr. and Mrs. Dorsey Lacy gave a surprise party in honor of Mrs. Lacy's 20th birthday Thursday evening. Pot luck supper was served. Those enjoying the affair were Mr. and Mrs. Seth Adams and son Robert, Mr. and Mrs. John Longstreth, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Tumblin and son Donald, Mr. and Mrs. Harry West and Mrs. Mae Lacy and daughter Catherine and Clarabelle West. They parted at a late hour wishing Mrs. Lacy many more happy birthdays.

Dresden Farmers Institute To Hold Sessions This Week

Dresden - The Dresden Farmers Institute will be held Friday and Saturday at the Jefferson high school auditorium. Mrs. D.B. Phillips and Ralph White will be the state speakers and will appear at each session.

The first session will be held Friday evening at 8 o'clock; second, Satruday morning at 10:30 o'clock; third, Saturday afternoon at 1:30 and the fourth Saturday evening at 8 o'clock. A pot luck dinner will be served at noon Saturday.

The Jefferson high school band will furnish music at the last session.

Civil War Snippets

In Camp - Capt. Mills of Dresden in this county, has raised a full Company of volunteers for the war. They have been assigned to the 16th Regiment and are now at Wooster, Ohio. Capt. Bainter and Capt. Hirst are both raising Companies, the former has sixty men enrolled. They will doubtless be assigned to Col. Gilbert's regiment, which will be organized here in a few days.

Appointed - Dr. Samuel C. Mendenhall of Frazeysburg, and Dr. Hood of Dresden in this county, have passed their examinations and been appointed surgeons in the army. We have known Dr. Mendenhall for years and feel assured no better appointment could have been made, so far as medical knowledge and skill is concerned.

Mr. G.W. Adams has just had completed a corn crib 200 feet in length, capable of containing 16,000 bushels of corn and another commenced of the same capacity, near the store of Adams & Leggitt. Mr. Adams is paying 25 cents a bushel for good corn delivered at the above cribs, 20 cents is the general price in this vicinity. - Dresden Intelligencer

Compliment to Dresden - We accidentally overheard the following compliment paid to the town of Dresden in this county, the other day by an omnibus driver, in coversation with another engaged in an opposition line, while standing in front of the Stacey House.
"Well Jim, you are too honery to live, if I was you I'd leave the city - I'd go to Dresden, I would."

Samuel Squire, who died at Dresden, aged 67, was born and reared in Jackson township. He moved to Dresden fifteen years ago. He served in the 122nd regiment during the Civil War. J.S. Squire of Coshocton is a brother.

A small sleighing party drove to the home of T.D. Adams of Dresden Monday night where the evening was pleasantly spent in dancing and other amusements.

The members of the Presbyterian church of Dresden gave an entertainment last night at Eschman's hall. The program consisted of a series of illustrated paintings by Miss Anna Sarah B--K. The affair was a most enjoyable one.

Dresden Woolen Mill

By an advertisement in this paper it will be seen that Mr. L. Rambo has his woolen mill in good running order, doing a large business.

For years the effort of Mr. Rambo has been doing a good thing for the people in the neighborhood of Dresden; and indeed through a large portion of the State. The people have found it very advantageous to exchange their wool for such goods as they used for wearing apparel at this factory and to have their wool spun, wove, dressed and made into such cloth as they needed.

We are also informed that Mr. Rambo intends purchasing a large amount of wool of all grades, and will pay the highest market price for the same. Give him a call when ever you are ready to buy, sell or exchange.
